The former French president was sentenced to 3 years in prison

 

Former President Sarkozy was found guilty of bribing and influencing judges, serving a three-year sentence but possibly not going to jail.

The court in the French capital Paris today charged bribery with former President Nicolas Sarkozy and sentenced to three years in prison, including two years of probation.

The court ruling also prevented any attempt to return to politics of Sarkozy.

Sarkozy is the first former French president to go to court on corruption charges.

Sarkozy was questioned by the police in 2014 and continuously struggled for many years, thinking that this case would be a "historic scandal".

Part of the evidence was taken from the eavesdropping of calls between Sarkozy and lawyer Thierry Herzog, which is part of an investigation alleging he received about $ 60 million from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2007. He has repeatedly denied
